The best way to victimize you is to help you first.” These were the words of Dallas Police Department’s Sgt. Byron Fassett when he delivered a lecture on Human Trafficking at the Southern Methodist University in Dallas. The statement pertains to how the trafficker lures the victim and, thereafter, subject her to his absolute control.

Since human trafficking transcends national boundaries, the primary goal of his lecture is for international awareness. On my part, my ultimate aim would be mobilization toward rescue of the victims and capture of the trafficker. At this juncture, let me suggest you read the books written by Gary Haugen, CEO of International Justice Mission (IJM). My encounter with him last year was truly remarkable. His advocacy became my inspiration.

For that reason, I became deeply involved in empowering victims of human trafficking, both labor and sex. So that even in my busiest time, I find joy in helping them the best way I could.

Human trafficking is happening everywhere. I encourage everyone to look beyond the walls of deception. In every restaurant you dine in, oppression might be happening on the other side of the decorated wall. Open your eyes. Do not hesitate to seek help of authorities for your one call may save a soul.

There are many ways to get involve. To learn more about what you can do and you are from Texas or the surrounding states, click here. If you are in the Philippines and in some parts of the world, please click here.
