I am never a fan of foot wares. I mean, it is going to be the last thing I am going to spend money for, unless needed of course. I was never fascinated with shoes, much less the name it bears.

However, I noticed my husband’s repeated remarks everytime I come home from shopping lately. “Sapatos na naman?” (Shoes again?) How can I ignore a branded pair of shoes that is on 70% to 90% price off? Never! Thus, even if I know I am not going to use it for the next six months, I will definitely buy it. I often reason out that by the time I would need it, it may no longer be on sale.

Just take a look at this pair of shoes I bought for my son. This is definitely bigger than his size. I could not resist that 80% off the price branded shoes. Imagine buying this pair of Hawk kid shoes at a regular price of $59.99 plus tax for just $11.99. However, deals like this is not easy to find. It requires skills and dedication. They say women dedicate a lot of time in finding the best deal. I could not agree more.

Accordingly, my husband is accusing me of becoming a compulsive buyer. I would like to object. That is a serious accusation which will stand only on solid ground.

Let us define compulsive buyer disorder.

Definition of 'Compulsive Shopping'
An unhealthy obsession with shopping that materially interferes with the daily life of the afflicted. This ailment goes beyond mere consumerism and is psychological in nature. Symptoms include obsession with shopping, anxiety when not shopping, the constant need to shop and the purchase of unnecessary or unwanted items.

Let me highlight the symptoms:
obsession with shopping “ – not really
anxiety when not shopping” – not sure
constant need to shop” – I cannot tell
purchase of unnecessary or unwanted items” - okay, this one is true

My husband is so smart to help me out from becoming one. He downsized the credit cards I carried in my wallet. He urged me to make a list of what I will need to buy before darting to the store. He advised me to buy only what I need and avoid looking around. These things actually worked for me. I am not bitter at all.  As a matter of fact, I am thankful in a way because I do not want to be one either. Thanks to my personal accountant, manager, and boss.

There is this one thing that confuses me, though. Whenever I appear to be cranky, depressed, and obviously having a bad day, he tells me to go shopping. Oh, well… on that part, I do not have any slightest objection. None at all.
