Perusing my Facebook one day, I chanced upon this lovely bunny picture posted by one of my
friends. Meanwhile, my son was watching behind me unnoticeable until he blurted out, "I want that bunny for my pet mommy!" Then for the next couple of hours, he was watching videos of bunnies in Youtube. Honestly, the bunny was adorable, but I am just not ready to house a bunny in our abode. I cannot fathom the trouble of chasing a bunny at home, or cleaning out loose fur.

Of course, it is hard to say no to a child who has so much excitement and desire to own a pet. However, as a mom, we have the power to redirect, not manipulate, the interest of our little child. Thus, I took advantaged of the power of giving him option and making that option appear more interesting than what he originally wants. In business, we call it the better "proposal." In other words, I showed him more interesting videos of a hamster coupled with follow up interesting hamster stories and facts. The next step was to bring him to the Pet Smart store where he had the opportunity to watch and observe live hamsters. At the the end of the day, I can say I have succeeded with the redirecting and promoting strategy. The next morning, I did not hear Gabriel's usual "good morning mom" greeting, instead, "how's Torin mom?"
