Super typhoon Haiyan, a.k.a. Yolanda, wrecked the Central Philippines in November 7.

According to CNN, there are currently 1,774 dead. However, fatalities could rise up to 10,000 according to official estimate. There are about 600,000 displaced people.

The typhoon has flattened Tacloban City in Leyte. The scene was described by one survivor as a giant tsunami smashing infrastructure and drowning people. Thousands of dead bodies piled everywhere. One account of survivor shared in Facebook said "Tacloban City is no more." Survivors were described "walking like zombies looking for food." They are scavenging for food and many are forced to loot stores desperately looking for food and water. In one report, there were about eight people who were crushed to death as thousand of them stormed a rice warehouse taking away sacks of rice (NBC News).

Typhoon Haiyan, now a tropical storm, has landfall in Northern Vietnam. It has significantly decreased in strength.

Other nations have sent their help to aid the Philippines in this time of great needs. However, due to problems in communication, damaged roads and airports, there is difficulty in bringing relief goods and other aid to the victims. The Philippine government admitted the lack of more organized system in handling this situation.
