Niagara Falls

A week-long visit to Buffalo is never complete unless you have seen its magnificence. I had the opportunity to witness this marvelous creation of God. The experience was rewarding. I even imagined sipping a cup of coffee one early morning at Niagara Falls.

I can call it my little adventure with Qiya. Qiya is my Chinese friend but felt more of like a sister to me. She is much younger in age than me but we got along so well. It was summer of 2012 when we packed our things and took a flight to Buffalo, New York. A visit to the fall was not our main purpose but we reserved the last day for it. The night before our last day, we decided to go to the fall to witness its awesomeness at night with all the colorful lights around the place. We took the bus which we found really cheap. We paid only $5 each for an hour travel compare to the taxi that was actually asking $70 back and forth.

When we got off the bus, it was still quite a walk to reach the fall. When we got there, my first reaction was, “this is it? This is the so-called Niagara Falls? Well it is pretty, but no matter how I try to convince myself, I don’t find it amusing at all!” I told Qiya that Niagara was overrated. Qiya thought the same way.

Disappointed, we decided to just go back and will never come back. But on our way back, we saw some people coming from the other way. Curious, we asked what was going on there. They replied in chorus, “the Niagara.” Oh wait, the Niagara? So what did we see? We found out later that there were three falls in the area: (1) the American Fall, (2) the Bridal Veil Fall, and (3) the Niagara Fall. Apparently, we just saw the American Fall. It was nice but it was not as big as Niagara. We’re sure glad to know before we left the place, otherwise we could have left  in great regrets.

Our first sight of the “Niagara Fall” was indescribable. It was truly huge… as in really huge! It was so beautiful and mesmerizing. We saw different colors coming out or projected from the waterfall which makes it even more gorgeous and stunning.  It is so big that it covers two cities: the Niagara Fall of Ontario, Canada and the Niagara Fall of New York. Obviously, we were on the New York side of the fall. We went home that night craving for another day at the fall.

However, catching the last bus was another adventure. We enjoyed the scenic so much that we forgot the time until we only have 5 minutes left before the last bus will set off. While we were dashing our way to the bus, the rain poured hard. We braved the rain for about a mile. We took shed from one big tree to the other until we got to the bus which was just about to leave. But we made it. The driver said, “You’ve made it!” We gave him a big smile.

We definitely came back the next day and spent a day exploring all its attractions. I enjoyed the Cave of the Winds tour to the Hurricane Deck. I loved the Maid of the Mist boat ride which took us to the foot of the Niagara Fall and actually got soaked in water. It was an experience that I always love to reminisce.
